Intuitive Cranial Sacral

In the late 1800’s Dr. William Sutherland, an osteopathic physician practicing in Missouri, discovered that human cranial bones are capable of minute movements which are critical to the healthy functioning of the body.  The discovery of the cranial rhythm, a unique pulsing movement distinct from but similar to the heartbeat or breathing rhythms of our bodies, took cranial work to a deeper realm of healing.  Today, many healthcare practitioners are employing cranial work as a stand-alone form of somatic therapy or blending it in with the other forms of manual work they already perform.

The Intuitive Cranial Sacral trainings at WMTI are designed to to blend scientific knowledge of the cranial system with an intuitive application of techniques tailored to what each individual clients’ body is telling them in the moment.  This work responds to the unspoken thoughts, emotions and memories that are stored within each of us.

Starting from a physically based yet very subtle set of techniques organized into sequenced protocols, your cranial work will evolve into a more energetic free-form style as the experience that comes with practice takes you to a place of being with a person rather than doing to a person.  Intuitive Cranial Work allows the freedom to express pent-up feelings and patterns of movement in a comfortable, safe environment.

Basic Intuitive Cranial Sacral

An introduction to scientific and emotional aspects of the cranial system and to an intuitive approach to craniosacral work.  The study of cranial anatomy includes an inspection of each individual bone, its’ natural movement in isolation and in unison with the other cranial bones along with the structure of the cranial membranes and the circulation of cerebrospinal fluid.

Emphasis is placed on interacting with your partners’ cranial system intuitively and recognizing the cranial pulse and rhythmic movements expressed throughout the body.  Closely supervised hands-on practice deepens your understanding of the work.  You will learn a basic protocol that may used to introduce basic cranial work to your clients.

Intermediate Intuitive Cranial Sacral

Building upon the Basic course material, an exploration of additional approaches for the parietal, temporal and sphenoid bones are introduced in this course.  Combination holds and spanning techniques.  As may happen with any intuitive work, spontaneous client movements and releases, termed unwinding, are discussed and time is devoted to developing sensitivity to and practice of unwinding if it occurs during supervised practice time.  Participants refine their cranial skills and develop their ability to allow individualized cranial protocols to emerge specific to the needs of each client.
